5 Fresh Takes on Jazz: Emerging Women Composers in Concert will highlight 5 women from different states & continents and their unique and individual approach to creating music. Versatility means activity for Gina Benalcazar. Her skill at doubling from tenor trombone to bass trombone, and from tuba to euphonium, has kept her busy subbing for Broadway musicals including Moulin Rouge! and Some Like It Hot, and in big bands such as the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Rufus Reid Big Band and Etienne Charles Creole Soul. Gina, 29, also is a member of Rodney Whitakers Jazz Orchestra and Dee Dee Bridgewater Big Band. Join us for a Meet the Composer reception open to all attendees following the performance. $10 tickets for students available with school ID. This performance will feature our jazz club set-up, with cabaret-style seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be ample seating for all guests.
