5 Fresh Takes on Jazz: Emerging Women Composers in Concert will highlight 5 women from different states & continents and their unique and individual approach to creating music. Lora Sherrodd is an award-winning vocalist and composer with a flair for writing straight-ahead tunes and feminist lyrics. Lora, 25, whose influences include jazz icons Carmen McRae and Betty Carter, is a two-time winner of DownBeat magazine’s Student Music Award for Outstanding Vocal Solo. The Wyoming native holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Wyoming and master’s degree from Temple University, both in jazz studies. Lora lives in Philadelphia. Join us for a “Meet the Composer” reception open to all attendees following the performance. $10 tickets for students available with school ID. This performance will feature our jazz club set-up, with cabaret-style seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be ample seating for all guests.
