With its beautiful melodies that transcend its biblical text, it speaks to us of hope and rebirth after the struggles of life and darkness. An annual, much looked-forward to Christmas tradition for many, Messiah was originally performed as an Easter oratorio. Since its first performance in Dublin 1742, Messiah has been used as a means for charitable fundraising, and as generosity and giving tends to be greater during the Christmas season, performances of Messiah in December eventually became the norm.
